Why we started

Free Mobility exists because mobility should not depend on income. For someone living with a disability, recovering from an injury, or aging without adequate support, the right equipment can be the difference between staying home and showing up.

We formed this organization to turn community generosity into practical, personal support: helping people access mobility equipment without asking them to choose between rent, food, medical care, and the tools that help them get through the day.

The founder's story

Our founder spent six months in a wheelchair after a serious accident. The injury healed. What did not go away was the memory of being on the other side of a curb, unable to get up, wondering whether anyone would stop to help.

When recovery was over, one question remained: What about the people for whom this is permanent? The retired teacher with bad knees in rural Missouri. The disabled veteran whose chair finally broke. The parent who lost a job and insurance in the same week.

Free Mobility is the answer to that question: a direct, transparent organization that works to turn a donation into a wheelchair in someone's home, with as little overhead as possible and financial transparency published annually.

What comes next

We are gathering local stories, expanding referral partnerships, and measuring the outcomes that matter: safer movement, greater independence, and the courage that comes when someone believes you deserve to move forward.
